At The College School, we believe in the transformative power of experiential learning.
With a commitment to academic excellence and outdoor education, we foster a vibrant community where students don’t just acquire knowledge—they apply it, developing the resilience and adaptability to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape.
Through authentic experiences, students stretch their thinking, strengthen their character, and gain the confidence to take risks and use their voices. In our close-knit community, every day offers a chance to grow stronger, braver, and more determined.
“TCS has far exceeded my expectations in providing an education for my children. While there are more hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, it’s the way my children are taught to view the world that leaves the deepest impression. My children have learned more than just academics. They’ve learned life skills that they’ll carry with them well into adulthood.”

Our fifth graders took learning to new heights this week!
With guidance from our Director of Adventure Education, Scott McClintock, students climbed the beautiful oak outside our Newport entrance as part of an interdisciplinary study that blends adventure education with science, math, outdoor skills, and language arts.
From climbing our oak tree and calculating trunk measurements in Lockwood Park to drafting stories inspired by Katherine Applegate’s “Wishtree” and mastering one-match fires, students are discovering how connected our natural world and our learning truly is.
At this week`s ISACS conference in Indianapolis, TCS Principal Brandon Murray and Theme Instructor Tim Ranek presented "Promoting Social Change Through Experiential Education." This dynamic session explored how experiential education can unlock students’ curiosities about the world around them and equip them with the skills to actively contribute to a better present and future. Highlighting our Middle School`s Urban and Social Justice Theme, Brandon and Tim showcased how students use scholarship and citizen engagement to explore the history and current condition of various neighborhoods in St. Louis to understand how communities function, how they thrive (or decline), and who benefits (or suffers) in the process.
Congratulations, Brandon and Tim, on an engaging and powerful presentation!
Yesterday was such a special day for our Newport children! Some of our youngest learners took their very first field trip to visit new friends at The Grande at Creve Coeur in collaboration with the Craftibility Foundation. Together, they created Thanksgiving crafts, shared stories, and made lasting memories, including meeting a 103-year-old friend! It was a beautiful reminder that friendship and creativity have no age limits.
We’re so excited to continue this year-long partnership built on kindness, creativity, and connection.
