Melissa began teaching first grade at The College School in 1996. She then moved to California with her family and taught preschool while she lived there. Traveling in an RV, Melissa visited 27 states before returning to St. Louis in 2001. She returned to The College School, in the first grade classroom, in 2001. Melissa holds a BA in Elementary Education/Spanish from Washington University. She also holds an MA in Speech and Hearing from the Central Institute for the Deaf and Washington University. Her son, Zachary (Class of 2014), is a graduate of The College School. Melissa incorporates her love of sign language and Spanish into the curriculum.
