Fifth graders had a blast at the @stlsciencecenter last week! Our Game Design Theme came to life through hands-on fun in exhibits like “GameXploration,” “Dream It. Build It,” and the “Makerspace.” Bonus: the Omnimax film Superhuman Body tied in perfectly with their human body studies!
Back in the classroom, students are diving into games as systems—creating goals, rules, challenges, components, and core mechanics. They’ve been inventing games with simple materials (think cups and coins), tweaking classics like tic-tac-toe, and following the design process: brainstorm, prototype, playtest, iterate, and reflect. With joyful energy, our Kindergarteners kicked off the spring trip season in grand style! Their Day in the Woods was filled with creepy, crawly creature discoveries, lunch with a view, a pit cave, lots of laughter, bravery, persistence, thoughtful reflections, and countless memories made along every mile of their hike.
