Kindergarten Installation Project

What could be more beautiful – and more surprising – than a kindergartener’s dream? Leaves made of clay. Bits of wire and weathered wood. Jewels and keys. Curlicues and coils. Seemingly disjointed but brought together into an entrancing vision-made-reality.

Not many schools would dream of making a permanent installation of a kindergarten-inspired sculpture. Not only have we done this, but we’ve placed it in a most prominent space, where all our visitors and all of us see it every time we come through the front door.

The mobile is the result of three months of dreaming, planning and collaborating by our kindergarteners, their teachers and a professional artist. In this project, our young artists learned about the creative process. They learned that words and ideas can be transformed into touchable shapes and forms. They studied sculpture and mobiles in all their wonderful styles. They learned to listen to each other’s ideas. They learned about their own capacity for creation.

We love the fact that at The College School, we make room to dream. And we are proud that we challenge our students and honor their efforts so publicly.  We want our students to dream big. And there’s nothing more beautiful – and more surprising – than a child’s dream.
