The Atelier Atelier is a French word for art studio, and at The College School our atelier serves as our early childhood art studio and as an artistic hub for children's experiences. Our atelier is equipped with myriad resources that are used by all the children and adults. A vital part of every Reggio Emilia inspired school, the atelier contains a wide range of media and materials that foster creativity and learning through exploration, creation, cognition, and reflection. The College School atelier is equipped with easels, paints, drawing materials, clay, wire, collage objects, and a multitude of natural and recycled materials. Technology resources and a workshop for documentation are also present.
The atelier provides space for weaving a variety of techniques with emotional responses and thoughts into aesthetic understandings, which in turn fosters an understanding of how children learn. This art studio space represents the core of The College School philosophy that strives to respect, follow, document, interpret, support, and inspire children's journey to construct meaning about life.
