  • Wish List

While The College School commits significant funds to keep our classrooms current, there are always items on our list for which our budget simply does not allow. The College School Faculty and Staff have compiled a "Wish List" of items that will enhance your child’s learning experience. If you would like to purchase an item or make a donation toward an item, please contact Faith Markus in the Development Office at 314-962-9355

The LaBarque Property
  • Creek Play Area with boulders (Estimated cost $10,000 - $15,000)
  • Garden classroom including fencing, pavers, constructed planters. (Estimated cost $10,000 - $12,000)
  • Lookout tree house in orchard area (Estimated cost around $15,000)
  • Cantilevered deck at bluff edge river bottom activity overlook (Estimated cost $10,000)
  • Outdoor kitchen (Estimated cost $10,000)
  • Simple fire pit (Estimated cost $5,000 - $6,000)
  • Permeable paver patio at pavilion/learning center (Estimated cost $15,000 - $20,000)
  • There are also other opportunities such as orchard plantings, butterfly gardens, trail building and camp yurts
Preschool
  • iPads: This technology could be used regularly to encourage writing of letters and numbers, researching of scientific topics, and for use during our documentation processes with projects. Checkout the following link about the use of iPads in early childhood classrooms: www.edlab.tc.columbia.edu/index.php?q=node/4777 (Starting at $499 each)
  • iPad Dock: An iPad dock could be used to play downloaded music and books in the classroom. Suzie and Andrea spent a good deal of time this past summer downloading children's literature onto the school server, and this would enable us to utilize these resources. (Estimated cost $30)
  • Sand/Water Table: A sand/water table would encourage science play in the outside atelier. Small groups of children could explore the many properties of water. (Estimated cost $120)
  • Rock Garden: A rock garden including small shovels, rakes, and hoes – it would be a wonderful addition to our large play space on the dirt portion of the Early Childhood Playground.
  • 18 inch Paper Cutter (Estimated cost $220)
Kindergarten
  • SmartBoard: The classroom would benefit from having a SmartBoard. (Estimated cost $4,700)
  • Desktop Computers: Two new desktop computers would replace the ones currently being used, which are outdated and not user-friendly. (Starting at $199 each)
  • iPads: One or two iPads for student use would be appreciated. (Starting at $499 each)
  • iPod: One iPod for use in our listening center would be appreciated. (Starting at $130)
First Grade
  • Lego Education: First Grade would benefit from having specific items from the Lego Education site. If interested please ask the teachers for specifics items. (Estimated cost $200)
  • Adult-sized Tents: First grade would like to have three 5-person to 6-person tents added to the Adventure Ed room for adults to use when on campout. (Estimated cost $450 each)
Second Grade
  • SmartBoard: The classroom would benefit from having a new SmartBoard. The one currently being used is an outdated model handed down from another classroom. It is not capable of utilizing the newer applications, and the projection/imaging is inadequate. (Estimated cost $4,700)
  • Green-Roof Project: The green-roof work done last year by our second graders was remarkable. They embraced the rooftop environment as a new habitat for plants as well as birds. This sparked an emerging long-term project involving bird feeders, bird identification and ongoing development of a new habitat right outside the second grade window! Potential exists for a collaborative effort between The College School and a local community business, SWT Landscape Architects, to rejuvenate and enhance the existing green-roof. The budget for designing a more sustainable rooftop habitat has yet to be determined; however, knowing that additional funds were available would enable the teachers to move forward with plans to involve second grade students in the planning process.
  • Classroom Sink: A new sink, where students could wash their hands and snacks could be prepared, would be greatly appreciated. This item could be bundled with the Green-Roof Project as a water source for the rooftop garden. (Estimated cost $200)
Third Grade
  • Boardwalk/Stage for the Pond at The River: Having a boardwalk/stage behind the pond would open up outdoor classroom possibilities.  Currently, students who walk around the pond will get muddy or may even slip and fall into the water.  A boardwalk around the backside of the pond would provide a stable, clean walking surface and the addition of a stage would allow for presentation possibilities. Third grade uses this space regularly for classroom reflection, writing and art activities. Once this space is available, other grades would use it as well.
Fourth Grade
  • New/current globes (Estimated cost $40)
  • A full set of "Sea to Shining Sea" books (United States theme/research books) (Estimated cost $480)
Fifth Grade
  • iPads/iTouches: Fifth grade brainstormed ideas of how they could implement a digital classroom. Their wish list is detailed and divided into three areas: the proposal itself, the cost of the equipment, and supporting details of how the classroom would use technology in the classroom. See the 5th Grade Propsoal for detailed explaination. (Estimated cost $13,500)

  • Eyewash Station (Eye Safety for a Chemistry Lab) for Science (Estimated cost $130)
  • Sleeping Bags (more are needed due to size of this year’s sixth grade class) for Adventure Ed (Estimated cost $60 each)

  • Zometool set 2, set 3 and set 5 manipulatives for Mathematics
