Technology
Throughout the school, our students use technology as a tool
to assist and facilitate their learning. While there is a vertical progression of
computer and technological skills taught throughout the grades, the technologies
are used in myriad ways to support learning. For example, technology supports research,
is a tool for expression, is a way to organize thinking, or is a way to connect
to other communities and ideas.
Examples of student use of technology are visible throughout
the school and our website. Presented here are two different styles of videos
created by middle school students. One group of videos were created in a study
of art history while the other were created through a creative process within a
technology class.

Media Technology
Instructor: Jason Raznick
Photography,
video and sound are primary focus of
this course. Students use Adobe Photoshop to enhance and manipulate
images
captured on a digital camera. Recording, editing and engineering of
sounds is accomplished using Apple’s GarageBand program. Students also
record video
footage that will then be combined with their image and sound
manipulation
skills together using Apple’s iMovie to create video presentations.

Discovering Art Through History
Instructor: Mary Jo Wilmes
Always
wondered what that painting meant? Why that is considered
art? Who made that sculpture and why? This class explores ideas and
images from throughout
the history of art. The class starts at the beginning and moves into
the world of visual
art by learning about different periods, important movements, and
interesting artists. Students learn the story behind the paintings in
order to better understand the history,
art, and themselves. Work is done in coordination with the St. Louis Art
Museum
collection.
